Participation of Public and Private Institutions, Support for Global Expansion and Growth
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] ‘FLY 2022,’ co-hosted by Busan Metropolitan City, Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Busan Technopark, and organized by Busan Union Technology Holdings, was held on March 31 at BEXCO APEC Hall.
The event, under the slogan “We can fly!, Startup City Busan 2030,” was attended by more than 100 participants including Busan Mayor Park Hyung-joon, Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chairman Jang In-hwa, heads of 14 public institutions, and representatives of over 30 promising companies, as well as stakeholders from both public and private sectors and startups.
Held to promote startups in the Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam (Bu-Ul-Gyeong) region and to share the dreams and ideas of startups, the event consisted of ▲ FLY 2022 Entrepreneurs Invitation Meeting (promising startups from Bu-Ul-Gyeong) ▲ Keynote Speeches (Ko Young-ha, Chairman of Korea Angel Investment Association; Park Hyung-jin, CEO of Coptic) ▲ FLY 2022 Certification Award Ceremony (10 companies selected for FLY 2022) ▲ FLY 2022 Selected Companies IR Presentations (Seo Jeong-ah, CEO of SwitchOne, and four others).
The event was held on a large scale for a regional startup event, with participation from economic support institution heads from Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam including Mayor Park Hyung-joon, Chairman Jang In-hwa, Kim Hyung-gyun, Director of Busan Technopark, Kim Yeon-min, Director of Ulsan Economic Promotion Agency, Koo Ja-rok, Director of Ulsan Information Industry Promotion Agency, and Kang Sung-yoon, Director of Gyeongsangnam-do Economic Promotion Agency. Many regional university-industry cooperation officials such as Lee Im-geon, Director of Industry-Academic Cooperation at Dong-Eui University, and Jeong Do-woon, Director of Industry-Academic Cooperation at Dongseo University also participated. Additionally, several venture capital firms based in the Seoul metropolitan area, including Mok Seung-hwan, CEO of Seoul National University Technology Holdings, and Kim Tae-hyun, CEO of Big Bang Angels, joined the event.
Seong Hee-yeop, CEO of Busan Union Technology Holdings, stated the purpose of the event: “We will pioneer a new growth path so that startups in our region can expand overseas directly without moving to the Seoul metropolitan area.” He added, “For the FLY 2022 certified companies, Busan City, public institutions, and the local economic community will join forces to provide comprehensive growth support for one year, including global expansion, follow-up investment, and R&D linkage, so that they can scale up to the next level.”
