Seongbuk-gu Illegal Filming Citizen Surveillance Team and Seongbuk Police Station Joint Inspection of Illegal Filming Devices in Women's Restroom at Seongsin Girls' High School
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seongbuk-gu (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) formed a citizen monitoring group against illegal filming in 2022. After completing education on illegal camera detection technology and prevention measures, they conducted a joint inspection with the Seongbuk Police Station targeting high schools for the installation of illegal filming devices in restrooms.
On this day, a total of 12 people participated, including 8 members of the Seongbuk-gu Illegal Filming Citizen Monitoring Group and 4 police officers from the Seongbuk Police Station (Women and Youth Division). They conducted a thorough inspection of 54 restrooms at Sungsin Girls' High School located in Dongseon-dong, Seongbuk-gu, for illegal filming device installations.
Due to the increase in crimes using illegal filming cameras on school premises, the inspection of women's restrooms was carried out to alleviate students' anxiety about digital sex crimes and to create a stable study environment.
Inspections were conducted in teams of 2 to 3 people using radio wave detectors and lens-type detectors. According to the monitoring group, no illegal filming cameras were found during the inspection.
Going forward, Seongbuk-gu plans not to limit inspections to one-time checks but to conduct regular monthly inspections through the Illegal Filming Citizen Monitoring Group. This will ensure that women can use public restrooms with peace of mind and help prevent illegal filming crimes in advance.
Shin Hyun-hwa, a member of the Seongbuk-gu Illegal Filming Citizen Monitoring Group who participated in the inspection, stated, “We will thoroughly check for the installation of illegal filming devices in restrooms and actively work to ensure that women can safely use restrooms in multi-use facilities.”
Lee Seung-ro, Mayor of Seongbuk-gu, said, “We will strive to build a more detailed local safety network to eradicate illegal filming and improve residents' sense of safety, making Seongbuk-gu free of safety blind spots.”
