[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Jung-wan] Yoon Ho-jung, Emergency Response Committee Chairman of the Democratic Party of Korea, stated, "It is urgent to investigate the criminal and corruption allegations surrounding Kim Geon-hee, who will soon become the First Lady."
At the Emergency Response Committee meeting on the 1st, Chairman Yoon asserted, "If the First Lady, who represents the face of the nation of the Republic of Korea, is embroiled in stock manipulation and plagiarism allegations, how can she hold her head high in the international community and conduct proper First Lady diplomacy?" He continued, "The People Power Party and some conservative media are spreading baseless fake news and slander against President Moon Jae-in and his wife," adding, "This is a tactic to somehow damage the morality of the President and his wife, divert public attention, and evade crisis."
He criticized, "No matter how politically difficult the situation is, malicious political attacks like the 'soil ditch watch' should no longer be tolerated."
Regarding the plagiarism allegations against Mrs. Kim, Chairman Yoon pointed out, "Kookmin University should stop being cautious and transparently disclose whether plagiarism occurred as soon as possible," and added, "Yoon Seok-yeol, who made a fuss over a high school student’s certificate of commendation, must take appropriate responsibility."
He also emphasized, "The investigation into the Deutsche Motors stock manipulation case, where only Mrs. Kim enjoys extraterritorial privileges, is the same," and stated, "If the prosecution neglects its duties, we will have no choice but to consider drastic measures. We urge an immediate direct investigation into Mrs. Kim."
Chairman Yoon further said, "We cannot properly govern the country by ignoring the beam in our own eye while only pointing out the speck in others’ eyes," and added, "Before nitpicking about the Blue House special activity funds, it is only right for President-elect Yoon to disclose how the 14.7 billion won of special activity funds were used during his time as Prosecutor General."
