Hand-delivering Handmade Cakes to Families with Newborns
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] The Volunteer Center of Hapcheon-gun, Gyeongnam, conducted the ‘Love’s Happy Birthday’ program on the 31st of last month, delivering handmade cakes to families with newborns to celebrate their births.
On that day, two volunteers participated at the Lifelong Learning Center and, under the guidance of a baking instructor, made the cakes themselves. The cakes were delivered along with congratulatory cards to five families with newborns in the local area.
This program is designed to celebrate the birth of children in Hapcheon-gun, which is experiencing a continuous population decline. When applying at the time of birth registration, volunteers personally deliver handmade cakes and congratulatory cards.
Since its start in August 2020, the program has delivered congratulatory cakes to 90 families over 13 sessions. This year, it was held twice in March, and except during the election period, the program will resume from June.
Applications can be submitted by inquiring at the town and township offices, and cakes are made and delivered to families with newborns once a month on the fourth Monday.
Lee Gyu-su, Director of Administration, said, “In a region entering super-aged society, childbirth is precious and should be celebrated by all,” adding, “We will operate the program effectively to bring joy to families with newborns through this small event.”
