Hwang Sang-mu, "Support for Fostering Local Unique Industries"... Listening to Public Sentiment Hwang Sang-mu, Preliminary Candidate for Governor of Gangwon Province, People Power Party [Hwang Sang-mu Election Camp]

[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] Hwang Sang-mu, a preliminary candidate for governor of Gangwon Province from the People Power Party, who continues his visits to various local communities under the concept of "a man having a fling with Gangwon Province," emphasized that "to prevent population outflow and revitalize commercial districts, it is necessary to develop the unique industries characteristic of each region."

At a visit to Yanggu and Inje on the 30th, following visits to Hongcheon, Cheorwon, and Hwacheon, Hwang pointed out, "The downtown areas were quiet, and the commercial districts seemed to be struggling compared to previous years," sharing his impressions of the regional visits.

He added, "Many residents expressed difficulties due to the COVID-19 situation, but ultimately mentioned the disbandment and downsizing of military units caused by Defense Reform 2.0," and said, "I will separately propose to the central government measures to address the collapse of commercial districts resulting from the disbandment of military units."

Hwang also stressed, "To revitalize local commercial districts and prevent population outflow, the province must focus on fostering tourism and food industries that leverage regional characteristics."

Residents conveyed their concerns, saying, "The educational conditions in county-level areas of Gangwon Province are very poor," and "Due to the lack of educational infrastructure, people leave for education elsewhere and are reluctant to move into rural areas."

In response, Hwang said, "If elected governor, I will utilize my experience as a CEO of an IT company to expand education and IT infrastructure, so that even county-level areas can receive educational services comparable to those in the metropolitan area, with support at the provincial level."
