[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] Shin Eun-jin, Chairperson of the Progressive Party's Special Youth Committee, held a one-person protest on the 29th, demanding the abolition of high school ranking education policies that encourage entrance exam competition.
On this day, Chairperson Shin stated in front of the Presidential Transition Committee located at the Financial Supervisory Service Training Center in Tongui-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, "There has been controversy since the formation of the transition committee due to the absence of education experts, which even sparked discussions about abolishing the Ministry of Education."
She criticized, "It has been revealed that the reform plan proposed by Lee Joo-ho, Director of K-Policy Platform and former Minister of Education, Science and Technology during the Lee Myung-bak administration, is being reviewed by the transition committee," adding, "This signals the revival of MB education, which fueled endless competition."
She continued, "The education policy of President-elect Yoon Seok-youl, which goes against the demands of students and youth, can only be seen as treating education?regarded as a long-term national project?as a means to maintain the entrenched public and private vested interests."
She then urged, "The transition committee must abolish education policies that overheat competition," adding, "It is necessary to listen to the voices of educational stakeholders and promote education that speaks of coexistence and equality rather than competition."
