O Do-chang, Yeongyang County Governor, Announces Re-election Bid as People Power Party Preliminary Candidate O Do-chang, the governor of Yeongyang County, is holding a press conference announcing his candidacy as a preliminary candidate for the nationwide local elections.


[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Gwiyeol] Oh Do-chang, mayor of Yeongyang County, announced on the 29th his intention to run for re-election.


Oh Do-chang, a preliminary candidate, held a press conference at the Yeongyang County Office large conference room on the same day and stated that he would run for mayor of Yeongyang County in the nationwide simultaneous local elections this June.


Oh said, "The past four years have been a precious time leading the changes in Yeongyang County," and added, "I am grateful for the opportunity to work solely focusing on the residents."


Oh argued that since Yeongyang County, classified as a region at risk of extinction, is experiencing an accelerating population decline affecting agriculture, economy, education, and other industries, it is an important time to secure government support in the second half of this year, and therefore an experienced expert should take charge.


Oh Do-chang, a native of Togok-ri, Cheonggi-myeon, began his public service career in Yeongyang County in 1980, worked in various departments of Gyeongsangbuk-do, and retired honorably in 2017 after about 37 years of service.


During his two years as deputy mayor of Yeongyang, he emphasized the importance of securing national funds to overcome regional limitations. He focused on winning government public project selections and achieved results such as securing national funds. As the mayor of Yeongyang during the 7th local government term, he promoted life-centered administration.


Oh Do-chang announced the slogan for the 8th local government term: "Make residents more comfortable, live better, and be happier." He expressed his ambition to achieve the 5·1·6 vision: a budget of 500 billion won, first place in chili pepper production, and 60 million won in farm household income.


He promised to promote the construction of the north-south 9-axis expressway, starting with the national road No. 31 alignment improvement and expansion project, which he devoted great effort to during the 7th term. He emphasized raising the Yeongyang chili pepper production subsidy significantly to achieve the goals of the highest price nationwide and first place in production.


Based on his experience attracting the Agricultural Products Quality Management Service and fire station, he pledged to attract various public institutions such as pumped-storage power plants, national forest management offices, correctional facilities, and forest healing centers to overcome the population extinction crisis and do his best to attract tourists.


He also proposed policies that combine support and self-reliance, such as modernizing traditional markets, expanding support for youth startups, and attracting sports training camps. He pledged to attract a family-type complex cultural complex covering 400,000 pyeong and establish a fermented food factory utilizing local agricultural products to improve residents' income.


He promised to provide disaster relief funds of 1 million won each to small business owners facing crisis due to COVID-19. He also stated that he would promptly promote the establishment of the Gukgaetteul residential complex infrastructure to build convenient living infrastructure for residents.


In addition, he promised to transform the constitution of Yeongyang County through various changes and innovations in housing, welfare, cultural tourism, and education sectors.


Oh Do-chang said, "Everyone knows that experience is important," and added, "To help Yeongyang County leap further, I will become a mayor who practices by adding abundant administrative experience on the solid foundation prepared so far."
