[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyun-joo] The police have launched an investigation after receiving a report that a motorcycle delivery worker was indiscriminately assaulted by a man on a road in Incheon.
On the 28th, the Namdong Police Station in Incheon announced that they responded to a report that a man in his 30s, identified as A, assaulted a delivery worker in his 30s, identified as B, on a road in Ganseok-dong, Namdong-gu, Incheon, around 12:18 PM on the 26th.
When the police arrived at the scene, both A and B had already left.
However, a video of the assault, presumed to have been recorded by a witness that day, spread through an online community on the 27th. The video shows a man who stopped his passenger car with hazard lights on the road repeatedly punching the delivery worker, who was sitting on a stationary motorcycle, on the head. The helmet worn by B was even knocked off due to A’s assault.
A netizen who posted the video said, "A delivery worker was being hit by a man who appears to be the owner of a Grandeur car with hazard lights on beside him on the road," adding, "I don’t know what happened, but assaulting a driver is unacceptable. Isn’t the punishment for assaulting a driver harsher than ordinary assault? I hope he receives a prison sentence."
Regarding this, a police official stated, "We contacted the delivery worker who was the victim of the assault, but he expressed that he does not wish to press charges as the perpetrator apologized," adding, "However, the perpetrator may be charged under the Act on Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes for assaulting a driver, so we are verifying the exact circumstances."
