[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bo-kyung] Envionia's achievements in developing eco-friendly air filter materials are becoming visible. On the 28th, the company announced that it has obtained two technology patents for air filter materials with antibacterial and biodegradable properties, and acquired the highest grade of European eco-friendly certification.
The two patents obtained by Envionia this time relate to manufacturing methods of eco-friendly materials that are not only biodegradable but also possess antibacterial and water-repellent properties.
The developed eco-friendly air filter material is produced through a wet process based on biomass fibers. Instead of artificial antibacterial agents, it suppresses bacterial growth and proliferation within the air filter by the antibacterial properties inherent in the natural fibers themselves.
The developed material is expected to be applied to cabin air filters for vehicles and air conditioning filters in the future.
Regarding the biodegradability of this material, it has acquired the 'OK Biobased' certification from the European institution 'TUV Austria.' This certification is classified into four grades based on the content of natural materials and renewable raw materials, and Envionia received the highest grade, 4-star. Recently, as ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management has become a key issue, companies such as Yuhan-Kimberly and HDC Hyundai EP have also obtained this certification.
Han Jeong-cheol, CEO of Envionia, stated, "We are actively researching biomass eco-friendly material application technologies such as nanocellulose and natural fibers to realize carbon neutrality and ESG management." He added, "Based on the development achievements including patent acquisition and European eco-friendly certification, we are preparing to enter the air filter market and expand our eco-friendly material lineup."
