[Asia Economy Reporter Bu Aeri] The office of President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol stated on the 28th regarding the dinner meeting with President Moon Jae-in, "The issue of COVID-19 loss compensation must be addressed as a top priority."
Kim Eun-hye, the spokesperson for the president-elect, said at a briefing held at the Financial Supervisory Service Training Institute in Tongui-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, "First and foremost, and secondly as well, we are focused on the livelihood of the people."
Spokesperson Kim emphasized, "There are many pressing livelihood issues, but especially the COVID-19 loss compensation promised to the public will likely require cooperation and support from the Blue House. We will do our best to make this meeting a source of strength for the people."
Regarding the Blue House's position to observe the National Assembly discussions on the supplementary budget (추경), she explained, "I believe that even the current administration will empathize sufficiently and act responsibly on the most urgent and critical COVID-19 issues for the people, regardless of party lines."
She added, "President-elect Yoon's stance is that when business restrictions, social distancing, or administrative orders cause harm to the people, the state has an obligation to fulfill loss compensation. The supplementary budget of 50 trillion won was a promise to the people, and I want to believe that the current government also agrees with and will support the justification for this."
