[Asia Economy Sejong=Reporter Son Seon-hee] Among government agencies, the National Assembly was found to have the lowest public trust.
According to the '2021 Social Indicators of Korea' recently released by Statistics Korea, the National Assembly received a trust rating of only 34.4% in a survey on government agencies trusted by the public as of last year, the lowest among all agencies. The trust level in the National Assembly has been the lowest in related surveys for the past nine years.
This figure is the combined percentage of respondents who answered 'somewhat trust' and 'strongly trust' when asked whether they believe each agency is performing its duties well, based on the Social Integration Survey conducted by the Korea Institute of Public Administration targeting the population aged 19 and older.
The agency most trusted by the public was local governments, with 58.5%. This was followed by the military (56.1%), central government (56.0%), police (55.3%), courts (51.3%), and prosecution (50.1%).
Public trust in government agencies generally increased compared to the previous year. In particular, trust in the National Assembly, courts, and prosecution rose by more than 10 percentage points from the previous year.
The police, courts, and prosecution received the highest trust from people with an education level of elementary school or below. Local governments and the military were most trusted by those with middle school education, while the central government and National Assembly were most trusted by those with a college degree or higher.
