[Asia Economy (Sejong) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Sejong City is advancing the demonstration and service enhancement of drones based on artificial intelligence.
The city announced on the 23rd that it has been selected for two consecutive years in the drone demonstration city construction project led by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
According to the project selection results, Sejong will receive 1.25 billion KRW in national funding this year to promote projects in seven areas including integrated drone control, road facility management, on-site safety management, firefighting services, and drone delivery.
In particular, this year, the focus will be on enhancing drone operation technology and expanding service scope by utilizing artificial intelligence such as autonomous driving and big data, thereby advancing demonstration services.
Detailed projects include ▲ AI-based road facility management using drone stations ▲ integrated drone control service applying aerial navigation ▲ real-time linked construction site safety management service with construction information systems, which will undergo technological advancement in demonstration.
Additionally, the city plans to add Korea University Sejong Campus as a drone delivery demonstration area and diversify the autonomous urban patrol service demonstration to include monitoring of illegal parking and abandoned bicycles, beyond parks and advertisements.
Furthermore, the demonstration scope will be expanded by promoting a new firefighting service using drones for high-rise building fire suppression within the golden time.
Meanwhile, the drone demonstration city construction project has been promoted since 2019 with the aim of fostering drone demonstration and practical use at the regional level. Following the recent project selection results, Sejong has been able to continue related projects for the second consecutive year since last year.
The city is in charge of overall project management, and Sejong Technopark participates as the dedicated institution to support early commercialization and business linkage of drone demonstration services.
Also, six companies including Baylis Co., Ltd., GSITM Co., Ltd., Seowoo Co., Ltd., Drone System Co., Ltd., Gyeonggi Aviation Co., Ltd., and Hancom Awesome Tech Co., Ltd. are participating as project operators.
