"Competing with Picture Quality"... LG Electronics Launches 2022 OLED TV

[Asia Economy Reporter Jin-ho Kim] LG Electronics announced on the 23rd that it will officially launch a total of 22 models of the 2022 OLED TVs, featuring the more advanced 'LG OLED evo,' in global and domestic markets.

LG Electronics recently introduced the brighter and clearer OLED evo Gallery Edition, enhanced through proprietary video processing and heat control technologies, to major overseas markets such as North America and Europe.

In Korea, the 77-inch (approximately 195 cm diagonal) model will be released first next month, followed by the 83- and 65-inch Gallery Edition models sequentially. The world's largest 97-inch (approximately 246 cm diagonal) new product, included in the OLED evo Gallery Edition lineup, is also scheduled for release within the year. The LG OLED evo Gallery Edition allows for gallery design installation where the entire TV fits flush against the wall without any external devices, in addition to gallery stands and regular stands.

Additionally, starting this year, the next-generation OLED TV lineup, OLED evo, will include not only the Gallery Edition but also the standard OLED evo models (83, 77, 65, 55, 48, 42 C2). The 65-inch (approximately 165 cm diagonal) standard OLED evo model will be released in Korea this month, with the 83, 77, 55, 48, and 42-inch models to be introduced next month.

The standard OLED evo lineup now includes the world's smallest 42-inch (approximately 106 cm diagonal) new model. Along with the popular 48-inch model, which is favored as a second TV or gaming TV, this product targets the premium mid-sized TV market.

Furthermore, various new OLED TV models (77, 65, 55 B2; 77, 65, 55, 48 A2) that broaden customer choices in the premium TV market will be released sequentially starting early next month, accelerating the mainstream adoption of OLED.

The domestic shipment prices for the 2022 LG OLED TVs are as follows: OLED evo Gallery Edition (model name: G2) ranges from 4.69 million to 14 million KRW (based on 65 to 83 inches; 97-inch price undecided), and the standard OLED evo (model name: C2) ranges from 2.49 million to 10.9 million KRW (based on 55 to 83 inches; 48 and 42-inch prices undecided).

The 2022 LG OLED evo is equipped with the 5th generation AI Alpha 9 processor, developed based on nearly a decade of accumulated OLED picture and sound quality data by LG Electronics.

The 5th generation AI Alpha 9 processor maximizes OLED performance by applying various technologies, including ▲ upscaling that reduces noise and enhances resolution ▲ picture processing technologies that improve HDR (High Dynamic Range) and color expression ▲ sound processing technologies that convert 2-channel audio sources into virtual 7.1.2 channel surround sound.

All 2022 LG OLED TV models have met both color fidelity?which evaluates brightness, saturation, and hue between the original content and the TV screen?and color volume?which assesses the ability to accurately and richly express colors regardless of screen brightness?certified by global testing and certification body Intertek.

Park Hyung-se, Head of LG Electronics' HE Business Division, said, “We will provide a new customer experience that cannot be experienced with other TVs by leveraging LG OLED TV’s uniquely superior picture quality and design.” He added, “As we enter the 10th year of our OLED business, we will further solidify our premium TV leadership based on the accumulated data and technological know-how.”
