Who Saves the Firefighters? Gyeongnam Fire Headquarters Dispatches Rapid Peer Rescue Team!

Produced Special Training Video Materials and Distributed to All Fire Stations in the Province

Who Saves the Firefighters? Gyeongnam Fire Headquarters Dispatches Rapid Peer Rescue Team! Gyeongnam Fire Headquarters formed a Rapid Peer Rescue Team and conducted special training.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] The Gyeongnam Fire Headquarters announced on the 21st that it conducted special training for the Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) over two days, on the 14th and 18th, to respond swiftly in case of accidents such as entrapment or isolation of firefighters at disaster sites including fires.

There are unfortunate cases where firefighters, who rush anywhere to save citizens' lives and property, suffer fatal or serious injuries at the scene.

The Gyeongnam Fire Headquarters established the Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) to rescue firefighters in danger during field operations, and conducted special training to enhance the adaptability of operational tactics on site and verify the effectiveness of team composition.

The Rapid Intervention Team aims to think about what must be done for survival when oneself, colleagues, or the unit are exposed to danger at disaster sites, and to improve the ability to respond accordingly.

The training assumes situations such as structural collapse and isolation, teaching how to safely approach and rescue injured firefighters, providing information for treatment, and practicing rapid escape methods using personal escape equipment.

The 119 Special Rescue Unit plans to create video training materials from this training process and share them with all fire stations in the province.

By thoroughly learning the content through simulated crisis situation training, the plan is to apply it in actual crisis situations on site, thereby strengthening crisis response capabilities not only individually but also at the organizational level.

Kwon Seonghwan, head of the 119 Special Rescue Unit, said, “It is important that when faced with dangerous situations, firefighters themselves escape from danger or that rapid and accurate rescue is carried out at the organizational level,” adding, “We will do our best to protect the safety of the residents and our colleagues in any situation.”
