[Jangheung=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jeong Seunghyun] Jangheung-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 21st that it will hold a memorial ceremony on the 26th, the anniversary of the martyrdom of independence activist Ahn Jung-geun.

From the 14th to the 26th, the "Ahn Jung-geun Online Memorial Incense Offering Site" will also be operated so that residents can safely pay tribute non-face-to-face.

At the online incense offering site set up on the county website, visitors can leave memorial messages along with flower offerings.

The Korea Kite Federation and Jangheung-gun have designated March as the "Month of Patriotism Kite Flying" to inherit Ahn Jung-geun's patriotic spirit and will hold various events together.

As the first step, a memorial kite flying event titled "Ahn Jung-geun and Haedongsa Reflected in the Five Major Rivers" will be held in the basins of the five major rivers nationwide, including the Han River, and a video will be produced for online promotion.

To remind future generations of the meaning of patriotism, paper toy making experiences of Ahn Jung-geun will be conducted for local elementary and middle school students, and a "Patriotism Connected by Kites" train kite demonstration will be held.

On the day of the memorial ceremony, the 26th, memorial kite flying events with Danji kites and Taegeuk kites will be held at Haedongsa and along the Tamjin River.

Haedongsa is the only shrine in Korea that enshrines the portrait and memorial tablet of Ahn Jung-geun.

In 1955, the Juksan Ahn clan in Jangheung, saddened by the fact that there were no descendants of Ahn Jung-geun of the Sunheung Ahn clan to perform ancestral rites, raised funds from the clan and local community leaders to build the shrine.

In 2019, Haedongsa was designated as a cultural heritage material of Jeollanam-do, and a project to create a memorial space for Ahn Jung-geun is underway.

A Jangheung-gun official stated, "We hope that through the 112th anniversary memorial ceremony of Ahn Jung-geun's martyrdom, the spirit of patriotism will be passed on to future generations."
