Gyeongnam Office of Education and Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education Collaborate on 'AI-Based Korean Education Data Set Research'

Based on iTalkTalk Research Achievements, Joint Establishment of Education Support System

Gyeongnam Office of Education and Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education have joined forces to research and develop an AI-based Korean education data set.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] On the 21st, the Gyeongnam Office of Education and the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education launched an integrated task force (TF) for the "Research and Development of AI-based Korean-style Education Data Set."

An education data set refers to a collection of educational information refined so that artificial intelligence can utilize data generated during learners' use of digital content and tools.

The two institutions signed a business agreement on February 24th for the research and development of AI-based Korean-style education data sets, and held a working-level meeting on this day to specify the joint research and development vision announced in the agreement and discuss implementation methods.

The meeting proceeded in the order of sharing research achievements of the Gyeongnam Office of Education's iTalkTalk education data set, forming the integrated task force and appointing the chairperson, and discussing current issues.

The working-level staff shared the educational data achievements of the "Gyeongnam Office of Education Big Data and Artificial Intelligence (AI) Platform iTalkTalk," which was the starting point of the cooperation, and exchanged opinions on future implementation plans.

A Gyeongnam Office of Education official said, "It is the first time in public education that the Gyeongnam Office of Education and the Seoul Office of Education are jointly researching a Korean-style education data set," adding, "It is expected to serve as a stepping stone to refine the education data science system standards to become foundational data for AI research."

The Gyeongnam Office of Education stated that through joint research, it plans to improve the existing functions of iTalkTalk intelligently or develop systems reflecting field demands.

The integrated task force, composed of working-level staff from both institutions and about 20 field teachers, will start with working-level consultations, promote independent research activities, share research outcomes, and build a joint data set annually.

They will also share research activities by institution, meet regularly for consultations, and pursue joint tasks.

Superintendent Park Jong-hoon said, "The working-level consultation proposes practical measures for public education to advance in a data-driven society and is a place to share data-based systems such as Gyeongnam Office of Education's iTalkTalk and Seoul Office of Education's remote class support platform NewSsaem, creating a future model of public education that grows together."

Superintendent Cho Hee-yeon said, "It is expected that the joint research and development with the Gyeongnam Office of Education will open a new chapter in education support utilizing artificial intelligence."
