Yeongsangang Regional Environmental Office Holds 'One United Water' World Water Day Ceremony

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] The Yeongsangang River Basin Environmental Office announced that it will hold the 'World Water Day Commemoration Ceremony' at its office on the 22nd.

This commemorative day was designated by the United Nations (UN) in 1992 to raise awareness of water resource conservation and the importance of drinking water, and commemorative events are held annually with the participation and cooperation of the government and private sectors.

This year's UN theme is 'Groundwater: Making the Invisible Visible,' and the domestic theme is 'Integrated Water Management (One Water),' reflecting the Ministry of Environment's new responsibility for river management following water quantity management this year, sharing the intention that a true era of integrated water management has begun.

The ceremony will proceed in the order of the national anthem, award presentation, and commemorative speech, and the cleanup activity will be conducted in the Jangnok Wetland area of Hwangryong River in Gwangju.

This cleanup activity will be carried out while strictly adhering to quarantine rules to prevent the spread of COVID-19, and the number of participants will be minimized.

The 'Hwangryong River Jangnok Wetland,' where the joint cleanup activity will take place, was designated on December 7, 2020, as the first national wetland protection area within the city, known for its excellent ecological conservation value. The Yeongsangang River Basin Environmental Office plans to encourage voluntary participation in cleanup activities, such as prohibiting littering, among local residents around the Jangnok Wetland.

Director Kim Seung-hee said, “On World Water Day 2022, the first year of integrated water management, I hope this will serve as an opportunity to lead local residents to participate in creating a clean Yeongsangang and Seomjin Rivers.”
