[Jeonju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Han-ho] Jeonju City announced on the 21st that it plans to establish the first floor of the former Nambu Market Horticultural Cooperative building as the Nambu Market Joint Sales Center by July.

According to the city, the Nambu Market Joint Sales Center project is part of the '2017-2018 Traditional Market Facility Modernization Project,' with a total investment of about 6.4 billion KRW, including 2.3 billion KRW in national funds.

The sales center will be designed as a traditional market-type complex cultural space equipped with △a space for selling Jeollabuk-do specialties △a Zero Waste store △a food and beverage sales area △a performance hall, among others.

In this regard, Jeonju City plans to select an institution to operate the Nambu Market Joint Sales Center as a place for selling excellent specialties and as a complex cultural space through a public recruitment process.

The entrusted institution operating the joint sales center will work to practice 2050 carbon neutrality, including Zero Waste initiatives, while exhibiting and selling at least 10 or more Jeonbuk specialties. It will also operate programs to revitalize Nambu Market, such as performances and experiences.

Additionally, on the second floor of the joint sales center, as part of the '2022 Cultural Regeneration Project for Idle Spaces such as Abandoned Industrial Facilities,' a total of 2.4 billion KRW, including 900 million KRW in national funds, will be invested to create a 'Subculture Complex Cultural Space (tentative name).'

The subculture complex cultural space, covering a total area of 1,639㎡, will include △an MCN (Multi Channel Network) studio supporting personal media content production △a digital and planned exhibition hall displaying various contents of subculture genres △educational facilities △outdoor event spaces △open resting areas, among others.

Meanwhile, on the same day, Jeonju Mayor Kim Seung-su visited the site planned for the Nambu Market Joint Sales Center to check the progress of the project and future operation plans.
