Jangseong-gun Selected for Ministry of Environment's 'Aged Water Purification Plant Improvement Project' Competition

Jangseong-gun Selected for Ministry of Environment's 'Aged Water Purification Plant Improvement Project' Competition

[Jangseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Jo Hangyu] Jangseong-gun, Jeonnam announced on the 21st that it has been finally selected for the Ministry of Environment’s ‘2022 Aged Water Purification Plant Improvement Project’.

Securing a total of 41.2 billion KRW including national funds, the county will undertake a full renovation of the water supply facilities that provide tap water to Jangseong-eup and Wolpyeong-ri in Hwangryong-myeon.

The most urgent place for improvement is the Jangseong Water Purification Plant.

Built in 1971, the Jangseong Water Purification Plant, which has supplied drinking water to residents of Jangseong-eup and Wolpyeong-ri, has significantly aged over its 50 years since completion, and it lacks seismic design, making it vulnerable to disasters.

Accordingly, the county plans to construct a new water purification plant to supply clean water.

The daily water purification capacity will also be expanded from 5,000 tons to 7,500 tons.

On the site of the existing Jangseong Water Purification Plant, a water storage facility called a reservoir will be built to store purified water.

Additionally, 4.4 km of aged water pipelines, which had caused disruptions in tap water supply and resident inconvenience due to winter damage, will be newly installed.

The project period is until 2025, and upon completion, clean tap water will be stably supplied to about 5,000 households and approximately 18,000 residents in Jangseong-eup and Wolpyeong-ri areas.

The county has repeatedly requested related agencies such as the Ministry of Environment, Yeongsangang River Basin Environmental Office, and Jeonnam Province to improve aged facilities including the Jangseong Water Purification Plant.

At the end of last year, the county quickly submitted an application to be selected for the Ministry of Environment’s ‘Aged Water Purification Plant Improvement Project,’ passed document evaluation, PPT presentation, and review procedures, and succeeded in securing project funds earlier this year.

A county official said, “Drinking water is a very important issue directly related to the health of residents,” and added, “We will continue to do our best to stably supply high-quality tap water.”
