Gwangju Integrated RPC, Hanam Industrial Management Corporation, and Pyeongdong Industrial Complex Operation Council Sign 'Bitchandeul Rice' Consumption Agreement
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, has launched a campaign to promote the consumption of ‘Bitchandeul Rice’ in collaboration with local industrial complexes.
On the 21st, Gwangsan-gu announced that it signed a ‘Business Agreement for the Promotion of Gwangju Mountain Bitchandeul Rice Consumption’ with Gwangju Integrated RPC, Hanam Industrial Management Corporation, and Pyeongdong Industrial Complex Operation Council.
The agreement was pursued to secure sales channels for local farmers, ensure stable income, and further establish a virtuous cycle system for local food.
Each organization promised mutual organic cooperation to realize the public nature of food that brings happiness to both urban and rural areas in Gwangsan-gu, a city combining urban and rural characteristics.
Gwangju Integrated RPC is a corporation jointly invested by 14 local agricultural cooperatives in Gwangju that purchases local rice and sells ‘Bitchandeul,’ a representative rice brand of Gwangju.
Last year, it purchased 9,000 tons of rice due to a bumper harvest, and as of March this year, it holds 7,000 tons, making it urgent to secure sales channels for the 2022 rice harvest.
Hanam Industrial Complex Management Corporation and Pyeongdong Industrial Complex Operation Council have agreed to actively promote the supply of Bitchandeul Rice to companies operating collective cafeterias within each industrial complex.
Kim Samho, Mayor of Gwangsan-gu, said, “We will pioneer sustainable sales channels for Gwangju Bitchandeul Rice in cooperation with representative agricultural institutions and companies in the district,” adding, “We expect this agreement to be the starting point for establishing a practical urban-rural win-win cooperation system.”
