[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] Kwon Jae-hyung, a member of the Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly from the Democratic Party of Korea (Vice Chairman of the Construction and Transportation Committee), submitted his resignation to the provincial assembly on the 21st and officially declared his candidacy for Uijeongbu mayor in the upcoming June election.


On the same day, Assemblyman Kwon emphasized, "The future of Uijeongbu lies in the establishment of Gyeonggi Buk-do," adding, "I am a candidate who will prepare the grounds to support the establishment of Gyeonggi Buk-do in Uijeongbu City, provide financial and administrative support, and ensure that the extension project of Line 8 to Uijeongbu is selected as a main project in the '5th National Railroad Network Construction Plan.'"


He continued, "I decided to run for Uijeongbu mayor with a sense of mission to resolve pressing issues such as the relocation of Dobong Driver’s License Test Center to Jangam-dong, construction of the Gosan logistics center, privatization of the sewage treatment plant, route change of Line 7, and relocation of the reserve forces training center in Howon-dong, in order to restore the trust in the public service that has been damaged."


As a member of the Construction and Transportation Committee, Assemblyman Kwon has been engaged in legislative activities to establish metropolitan bus routes 6000 and 6100, as well as the metropolitan bus route to Seoul Station scheduled to operate in May.


In particular, he collaborated with his party colleague, National Assemblyman Kim Min-chul, to help have the 'Line 8 Uijeongbu extension project' selected as a project for additional review in the 4th National Railroad Network Construction Plan.


Additionally, he has worked on projects such as the 'Jungnangcheon Safety Stepping Stone Replacement Project,' 'Gymnasium Expansion Projects at Five Local Schools,' 'New Construction of Sinchon Senior Citizens Center,' and the enactment of ordinances to improve the treatment of transportation workers.


Assemblyman Kwon is a local politician who graduated from Uijeongbu Hoam Elementary School, Uijeongbu Middle School, and Uijeongbu High School. He previously served as a Uijeongbu city council member and was selected as an 'Outstanding Assembly Member' by Gyeonggi public officials in 2020.


Assemblyman Kwon plans to register as a preliminary candidate within this week and begin preparations for the local election.
