Operation of Mobile Laundry Service for Vulnerable Groups
[Gokseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Cha Jong-sun] When a mobile laundry vehicle appears along the narrow rural road, residents gather in front of the vehicle with smiles on their faces.
Both hands are full of laundry such as blankets that have not been washed throughout the winter.
This is the scene in villages where Gokseong-gun's new policy project for 2022, the ‘Healthy Happiness+ Mobile Laundry Service (hereafter ‘Happy Laundry Service’),’ is being carried out.
Gokseong-gun has been visiting remote villages every Thursday for 14 years through the Hope Welfare Mobile Service, providing various welfare services.
Among the 12 services currently provided, the mobile laundry service is by far the most satisfying to residents.
This is because many residents have had difficulties with large laundry items such as blankets due to aging.
Accordingly, Gokseong-gun decided to promote the Happy Laundry Service to expand services to vulnerable groups in the region.
The Happy Laundry Service targets households with disabled persons and elderly living alone.
The service started on March 2 in Maesan Village, Ip-myeon, and aims to visit a total of 120 villages this year.
To this end, the service will be provided three times a week, visiting one village per session.
The service vehicle used is a 2.5-ton mobile bath and laundry vehicle from the Gokseong Regional Self-Support Center.
It easily navigates narrow alleys, farm roads, and winding village roads.
The vehicle is equipped with three 24kg drum washing machines and one 17kg dryer.
After leaving laundry, residents can briefly attend to household chores or chat with neighbors and soon receive clean and fluffy blankets.
Gokseong-gun expects the Happy Laundry Service to help vulnerable groups live healthier lives.
A county official said, “We will continue to strive to provide welfare services that allow residents to live in a more comfortable environment. We also express our gratitude to the Gokseong Regional Self-Support Center and participants who cooperated in providing the service.”
