"The golf grip is one of the most important parts of the swing."
This is a famous quote from Ben Hogan (USA), known as the 'Father of Modern Golf.' The grip controls the height, length, and direction of your shots. The entire swing changes depending on the grip. The 'Golf Emperor' Tiger Woods (USA) advised, "If your shots aren't good, check your grip first." There are three types of grips: Neutral, Strong, and Weak.
The Neutral grip is suitable for beginners and weekend golfers. It is best for hitting a straight ball. However, the Strong grip is a hook grip. It can generate power, but during impact, the clubface tends to close, causing a hook shot.
It is good for intentionally hitting a draw or hook. The Weak grip tends to produce high shots, but the clubface opens, making it easy to slice the ball. Each grip has its pros and cons. You should choose the grip that fits your swing and shot shape.
A: Strong, Neutral or Weak grip. Which is best for you?
B: I am a big fan of a strong grip. It encourages the ball to go further and the hands to lead the clubhead into impact.
A: I wonder why I often hit bad slices?
B: It looks like you’re holding a weak grip. A weak grip often produces a good fade, but sometimes causes a bad slice.
