[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yeo Jong-gu] Gyeongsan City in Gyeongbuk has been finally selected for this year's aged water purification plant improvement project hosted by the Ministry of Environment.
Geyang Water Purification Plant, completed in 1994, was facing increasing concerns about structural stability and compliance with water quality standards due to facility aging.
To resolve this, the aged Geyang Water Purification Plant will be closed, and a plan for expansion and advancement of the Gyeongsan Water Purification Plant was established, with construction starting in December 2020 and aiming for completion in 2023.
Through this public contest project, out of the 40 billion KRW budget for the expansion and advancement of the Gyeongsan Water Purification Plant, 16.5 billion KRW in national funds will be supported in the first phase, and out of the 17 billion KRW budget for this aged water purification plant improvement project, 8.5 billion KRW in national funds will be supported.
The aged water supply network maintenance project, confirmed in 2020 and currently underway, has a total budget of 43.5 billion KRW, and plans to complete the water supply network maintenance and management system by 2024.
Choi Young-jo, mayor of Gyeongsan City, said, “Through the aged water purification plant improvement project and water supply network maintenance project, we will fundamentally improve tap water quality issues and supply clean and safe tap water to citizens.”
