Councilor Song Aryang Pledges to Do Her Best to Ensure Prompt Construction of the Ui-Sinseol Extension Line as Originally Planned!
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Song Aryang, a member of the Seoul Metropolitan Council's Transportation Committee (Democratic Party, Dobong 4), attended the Ui-Sinseol Extension Line Strategic Environmental Impact Assessment Residents' Briefing and Basic Plan Public Hearing as a discussant on the 15th, emphasizing the necessity of the urban railway and urging prompt commencement of construction as originally planned.
This public hearing was held in accordance with Article 15, Paragraph 2 of the Enforcement Decree of the Environmental Impact Assessment Act and Article 6, Paragraph 3 of the Urban Railway Act, regarding the 'Ui-Sinseol Extension Line,' which is on the verge of basic plan approval.
At the public hearing and residents' briefing, Councilor Song emphasized the residents' aspirations for the Ui-Sinseol Extension Line, the necessity of transfer at Banghak Station, and the importance of selecting station locations.
The Ui-Sinseol Extension Line is an extension connecting the existing Ui-Sinseol Line Solbat Park Station to Line 1 (Gyeongwon Line) Dobong-gu Banghak Station, with a total project cost of 440.3 billion KRW and a total length of 3.93 km, including three stations.
As of March 2022, it is on the verge of obtaining basic plan approval, the most important preliminary procedure for urban railway construction, aiming to start construction in 2024 and open in 2029.
Accordingly, Councilor Song stated, “The Ui-Sinseol Extension Line faces important tasks such as selecting station locations considering transfer at Banghak Station and future linkage with the Dongbuk Line extension. The beginning of this is the Ministry of Strategy and Finance's approval of the basic plan.”
Finally, Councilor Song declared, “I promise to maintain steady interest and make the best efforts to develop Dobong-gu and the northeastern region of Seoul into a genuine public transportation hub where people can use the subway anytime and anywhere, no longer a transportation-disadvantaged area.”
