[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] The Special Judicial Police of Daejeon City announced on the 16th that they conducted a planned crackdown over two months starting in January on fine dust emission sites within the jurisdiction and identified five locations violating the Air Environment Conservation Act.
The planned crackdown focused intensively on sites suspected of generating fine dust among large boilers and feed manufacturing businesses, as well as large construction sites where fuel usage concentrates during the winter season.
During this process, Site A was caught operating an absorption-type chiller-heater for building heating (2,335,360 kcal/hr). The reason for the crackdown was that the site exceeded the air emission facility installation report standard of 1,238,000 kcal/hr by more than twice without filing the required report and operated abnormally.
Additionally, feed manufacturing companies Site B and Site C were caught operating unreported air emission facilities, specifically mixing facilities, while large construction sites Site D and Site E were found not implementing dust suppression measures by failing to install cover facilities on over 3,000 m³ of soil stored at the construction sites during earthwork generating large amounts of scattered dust.
The city’s special judicial police will file criminal charges against violators at the identified sites and notify the relevant departments and autonomous districts to impose penalties such as suspension of operations or cessation of use and orders to comply with corrective measures.
Yang Seung-chan, Director of the Citizen Safety Office of the city, stated, “Fine dust is a Group 1 carcinogen that can cause cardiovascular and respiratory diseases, so careful management is necessary. The city will continue crackdowns targeting facilities that cause fine dust threatening citizens’ living environments.”
