[Asia Economy reporters Kwon Hyun-ji and Na Joo-seok] The Presidential Transition Committee of President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol appointed former National Assembly Deputy Speaker Park Joo-sun as the chairman of the Presidential Inauguration Ceremony Preparation Committee on the 15th.

Kim Eun-hye, spokesperson for the president-elect, announced at a briefing at the People Power Party headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul, that "former Deputy Speaker Park has been selected as the chairman of the Presidential Inauguration Ceremony Preparation Committee." Kim explained the background of the appointment, saying, "Former Deputy Speaker Park is considered the most suitable person to convey President-elect Yoon's values and philosophy to the public as the chairman of the inauguration ceremony preparation." She added, "He has played a dedicated role in changing the political landscape of the Republic of Korea through numerous political experiences," and evaluated him by saying, "He understands better than anyone the values and philosophy of the Yoon Seok-yeol administration, which prioritizes national unity as the most important task to complete a just and new Republic of Korea."

Former Deputy Speaker Park, a legal professional who passed the bar exam in 1974, entered politics as the Blue House Legal Secretary shortly after the inauguration of the Kim Dae-jung administration in 1998. He served as a four-term member of the National Assembly in the 16th, 18th, 19th, and 20th sessions and was the Deputy Speaker of the 20th National Assembly during its first half.

He is known as a figure who crosses party and factional lines. From 2000 to 2011, he was affiliated with the Millennium Democratic Party (the predecessor of the Democratic Party) and the Democratic Party, then left the party and was appointed as a Supreme Council member of the People's Party in 2016. In 2018, he joined the founding of the Bareunmirae Party and served as co-chairman.

In this presidential election, he supported President-elect Yoon's campaign from the People Power Party. He served as co-chairman of the People Power Party's election countermeasures committee and as chairman of the East-West Harmony Future Committee directly under candidate Yoon.

In a phone interview with this publication, former Deputy Speaker Park said, "The chairman of the inauguration ceremony preparation committee must embody the president-elect's philosophy and vision for the next five years of the Republic of Korea, so the responsibility is heavy," but added, "I will do my best."
