20th Presidential Election Gangwon Voter Turnout 76.2%... Up 1.9% Compared to 19th Presidential Election

Pyeongchang and Yeongwol Counties Highest at 78.6%... Sokcho Lowest at 73.4%

[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] The voter turnout in Gangwon Province for the 20th presidential election was recorded at 76.2%, which is lower than the national turnout rate.

According to the National Election Commission, out of 1,333,621 registered voters at 670 polling stations across 18 cities and counties in Gangwon Province, 1,015,660 people cast their votes, resulting in a turnout rate of 76.2%.

This is 1.9 percentage points higher than the final turnout rate of 74.3% in the 19th presidential election.

Pyeongchang-gun and Yeongwol-gun had the highest turnout rates at 78.6% each, followed by Yanggu, Hoengseong, and Inje at 78.3%, Hwacheon at 78.2%, Yangyang at 78.1%, Goseong at 77.9%, Jeongseon and Samcheok at 77.6%, Chuncheon and Hongcheon at 76.7%, Gangneung at 76.4%, Taebaek at 76.1%, Cheorwon at 74.8%, Wonju at 74.7%, Donghae at 74.6%, and Sokcho at 73.4%.

Meanwhile, the nationwide turnout rate was 77.1%. Gwangju had the highest turnout at 81.5%, followed by Jeonnam at 81.1%, Jeonbuk at 80.6%, Sejong at 80.3%, Daegu at 78.7%, Ulsan and Gyeongbuk at 78.1%, Gyeonggi and Daejeon at 76.7%, and Gyeongnam at 76.4%.

Seoul recorded 77.9%, Busan 75.3%, Incheon and Chungbuk 74.8%, Chungnam 73.8%, and Gyeonggi, which has the largest number of voters, was tied with Daejeon at 76.7%. The region with the lowest turnout was Jeju at 72.6%.

The winner is expected to be announced around the early morning of the 10th. In Gangwon Province, 520,738 people participated in early voting, accounting for 38.42%.
