[Asia Economy Reporter Ki Ha-young] The quarantine authorities will announce the COVID-19 vaccination plan for children aged 5 to 11 in Korea around the 14th.

Jung Eun-kyung, Commissioner of the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, stated at the regular briefing on the 7th, "We are finalizing the supply schedule for the vaccine for ages 5 to 11 and preparing the vaccination plan," adding, "We plan to provide detailed vaccination plans around next Monday."

Earlier, on the 23rd of last month, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety reported that the COVID-19 vaccine for ages 5 to 11 had secured safety and approved its domestic use. The vaccine approved by the Ministry is Pfizer Korea's COVID-19 vaccine for ages 5 to 11, 'Comirnaty 0.1 mg/mL (for ages 5 to 11),' which contains one-third the amount of active ingredient per dose compared to the vaccine approved for those aged 12 and older.

Commissioner Jung explained, "The vaccine for ages 5 to 11 is very different, so we are finalizing the supply schedule for this vaccine and preparing the details."

She added, "Since the vaccine's effectiveness in preventing infection and severe illness has been confirmed for ages 5 to 11, we believe it is necessary to prioritize vaccination for high-risk groups, including immunocompromised individuals," and said, "We will proceed with vaccine supply, designation of vaccination institutions, vaccination guidance, and reservations to enable vaccination as early as possible."
