Busan Mayor Park Hyung-jun also decided to add a personal monetary gift, hoping that Ukraine will quickly regain peace and stability.
Busan City launched the "Peace Light" campaign to pray for peace in Ukraine at representative landmarks in Busan such as Gwangandaegyo Bridge, Busan Harbor Bridge, and the Busan Cinema Center for three days from the 1st. Following the ongoing armed invasion and the urgent need for refugee relief supplies, the city decided to provide this relief fund support.
Mayor Park said, "I express my sorrow over the Ukraine situation and show solidarity by empathizing with the Ukrainian people," adding, "I hope this support will bring some comfort to the suffering Ukrainian refugees, and Busan will stand together with them."
Busan City has previously supported disaster recovery efforts with 100 million KRW for the 2008 Sichuan earthquake in China, 100,000 USD for the 2010 Haiti earthquake, 50,000 USD for the 2016 Ecuador earthquake, and 100,000 USD for the 2022 Philippine typhoon.
