[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Cho Hyung-joo] GIST (Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology President Kim Ki-seon) announced on the 7th that Lee Young-joo, a master's and doctoral integrated course student in the Department of Biomedical Engineering, was selected as a scholarship student in the field of biomedical science by the Asan Social Welfare Foundation in 2022.
The Asan Social Welfare Foundation has been selecting and supporting graduate students in related fields since 2017 to foster future talents in the field of biomedical science.
For the integrated master's and doctoral course, a scholarship of up to 20 million KRW per year is provided for a maximum of four years.
Student Lee Young-joo is currently conducting research combining biophotonics and artificial intelligence, classifying dementia stages using signals obtained through near-infrared spectroscopy, and observing blood flow information at fracture sites to predict the degree of fracture healing.
Lee Young-joo expressed, "I am grateful to Professor Kim Jae-kwan, my advisor, Professor Regine Choe, with whom I am currently conducting joint research, and my lab colleagues who have provided much academic support," and added, "Through continuous effort, I hope to contribute to the domestic biomedical field in the future."
