Gyeongnam Province will conduct inspections targeting 4,940 business sites related to air and water quality within the province by the end of the year to eradicate environmental pollution activities.
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kang Sharon] Gyeongsangnam-do is launching crackdowns to eradicate environmental pollution activities.
On the 3rd, Gyeongnam Province announced that it has established the '2022 Integrated Guidance and Inspection Plan for Pollutant Emission Facilities.'
According to this plan, until the end of the year, guidance and inspections will be conducted to eradicate environmental pollution activities targeting 4,940 facilities in the province that emit pollutants related to air and water quality.
The integrated guidance and inspection will be carried out 1 to 4 times a year, with the number of inspections varying depending on the size of the facility and past violation history.
Green companies recognized for their environmental management capabilities and self-inspection businesses will manage their facilities autonomously, while key management target facilities lacking environmental management capabilities?such as those exceeding emission standards more than twice or failing to comply with improvement orders?will have increased inspection frequency to efficiently manage emission facilities.
Additionally, if a single facility emits various environmental pollutants such as air pollutants and wastewater, integrated guidance and inspections will be conducted to reduce the burden of frequent corporate visits.
Jung Seok-won, Director of the Climate, Environment, and Forestry Bureau of Gyeongnam Province, stated, “We will strengthen prevention and technical support using IoT measuring devices to prevent environmental pollution accidents, and we will strictly crack down on illegal activities without any tolerance.”
Meanwhile, last year, Gyeongnam Province inspected 5,303 facilities, detecting a total of 821 cases including 109 cases of exceeding emission standards, 31 cases of abnormal operation, and 99 cases of unauthorized operations. Administrative measures such as suspension of operations and improvement orders were taken, and 283 cases with severe violations were criminally prosecuted.
