Industry Mourns Nexon’s Kim Jung-ju Passing… Kim Taek-jin: "The Greatest Pain I Never Felt in Life"


[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] Following the news of the passing of Kim Jung-ju, founder of Nexon and director of NXC, condolences poured in from industry figures including Kim Taek-jin, CEO of NCSoft.


Kim Taek-jin, CEO of NCSoft, expressed his condolences through his social networking service (SNS), saying, "I feel the greatest pain I have never felt in my life."


The CEO stated, "A friend I loved has left. My companion who walked the path of life with me, I loved you. Now rest in peace, please."


CEO Kim and Director Kim Jung-ju were senior and junior at Seoul National University College of Engineering. CEO Kim was in the class of 1985 in the Department of Electronic Engineering, and Director Kim Jung-ju was in the class of 1986 in the Department of Computer Engineering, making Kim the senior by one year.

Namgoong Hoon, the designated CEO of Kakao, also expressed condolences upon hearing the news of Director Kim Jung-ju's passing.


On the 1st, Namgoong posted on his Facebook account, "This is a sorrow for the industry. I pray for the deceased's happiness in the afterlife."


Kim Jung-ju, founder of Nexon, one of Korea's leading game companies, and director of NXC, passed away at the age of 54. He was a first-generation leader in the Korean gaming industry and made significant contributions to the game industry.


On the same day, NXC stated, "Director Kim Jung-ju of NXC passed away in the United States at the end of last month. The deceased had been receiving treatment for depression for some time, and it appears that his condition recently worsened, which is very unfortunate. We earnestly ask that you respect the family's wish to quietly send him off."
