[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Sumi] Former Roh Moo-hyun Foundation Chairman Yoo Si-min, who bet 500 won predicting that Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party candidate, would win the upcoming presidential election, was countered by former Prime Minister Secretary Jeong Un-hyeon, who said, "I would bet 1,000 won on Yoon Seok-youl's victory."
According to political circles on the 1st, Jeong stated on his Facebook the day before, "I cannot say for sure, but I believe the possibility of Yoon Seok-youl's victory is very high."
Jeong, a close aide of Lee Nak-yeon, the Democratic Party's general election campaign committee chairman, had declared his support for Yoon Seok-youl, the People Power Party candidate, on the 21st of last month, saying, "I would rather choose a plant than an unpredictable monster."
Jeong addressed Yoo, saying, "Brother Yoo, it's been a while. I saw on the broadcast that you bet 500 won on Lee Jae-myung's victory."
Earlier, Yoo had said on KBS 1TV's 'Let's Do Politics 2' aired on the 27th of last month, "I don't know who will win, but I think Candidate Lee is somewhat more likely," adding, "(The chances of winning) are fifty-fifty, but if I had to bet 500 won, it would be more realistic to bet on Candidate Lee."
In response, Jeong argued that Candidate Yoon's chances of winning are even greater, citing "the average of numerous opinion polls so far and the greater desire for regime change over regime continuation" as reasons.
Regarding Yoo's point that "Lee Jae-myung's support base is much more specifically desperate than Yoon Seok-youl's support base," Jeong said, "While reading Brother Yoo's hopeful heart, I also felt somewhat saddened."
