Successful Founding Meeting of the Korean Nobel Science Award Forum

Successful Founding Meeting of the Korean Nobel Science Award Forum

Leading knowledge consulting company, KnowledgePen Co., Ltd., announced that it successfully held the inaugural meeting for the establishment of the nonprofit corporation ‘Korea Nobel Science Award Forum’ on February 19th (Saturday) from 2 PM to 5 PM at the National Assembly Members' Office Building Grand Conference Room.

KnowledgePen believes that the reason why there have been zero Korean Nobel Science Award recipients and the difficulties faced in writing academic papers stem from the same structural causes within Korean society. Together with like-minded individuals, they have embarked on a journey to create the nonprofit corporation Korea Nobel Science Award Forum.

The Nobel Science Award is regarded as a benchmark of advanced countries. However, despite Korea ranking second in R&D investment relative to GDP, it has never produced a Nobel laureate in the scientific fields.

Since producing Nobel Science Award recipients is considered an indicator of national capability, it is a national goal that must not be postponed for the development of the Republic of Korea.

Accordingly, the ‘Korea Nobel Science Award Forum’ is an intellectual group preparing to establish a nonprofit corporation with the purpose of analyzing the reasons behind Korea’s lagging knowledge industry competitiveness and ultimately producing Korean recipients in the ‘Nobel Science Award’ field, which represents the pinnacle of knowledge.

Key participants from the political sphere include Representative Woo Sang-ho of the Democratic Party and Representative Park Sung-joong of the People Power Party. In academia, over 30 members participated, including Professor Yoon Sung-sik (Korea University), who currently serves as the forum’s chair, Professor Kim Kyung-geun (Korea University), Professor Kim Sung-soo (Kyung Hee University), Professor Cho Man-hyung (Hannam University), and Professor Kim Jung-hak (Korea University).

Meanwhile, from the business sector, over 30 participants included Chairman Ham Soo-nam (Hightech Korea), Chairman Kim Hong-sun (GeoSystem Research), Chairman Jung Je-mook (UKay), CEO Lee Hyung-gu (Noah Ventures), CEO Song Cha-won (WooIn Engineering), CEO Cha Wan-young (Marine Innovation), Director Jang Jin-young (Ilim Electronics), Director Han Jung-sik (Apex Precision), CEO Cho Chang-soo (Hurim Hwangchil), CEO Ji Yong-jin (Motion Care), CEO Jang Hyuk-jae (BearBase), and CEO Kim Nam-min (POP Consulting).

Additionally, participation continued from various organizations. Over 30 participants included Branch Manager Kim Chun-sik (Seoul Heungsadan), Chief Advisor Choi Seok-tae (EQIN), Professor Ahn Chang-ho (Convergence Knowledge Society), Director Kim Do-woon (Korea Andragogy Research Institute), Dr. Kim Na-rin (Korea Welfare Culture Association), President Kim Sang-ho (World Culture and Arts Association), Director Kim Jong-nye (Global Future Knowledge Education Institute), Dr. Bae Eun-chan (Korea Railroad Museum), Dr. Seo Byung-chul (Daegu TMCA), and Chairperson Son Myung-sun (Korea Railroad Council).

To ensure a successful event, members also contributed sponsorships. Many, including CEO Lee Jung-woo (GSIL), generously provided financial support, and members, including CEO Lim Jong-wang (K-Smart Korea), donated goods.

Professor Yoon Sung-sik, Honorary Professor at Korea University and chair of the founding preparation committee of the ‘Korea Nobel Science Award Forum,’ stated, “To produce Nobel Science Award recipients, it is essential to build an advanced ecosystem composed of a societal value system and atmosphere that cherish scientific talent, abundant scientific talent, and a good research environment. Furthermore, we plan to promote concrete action plans such as talent discovery, research support, and policy proposals. In particular, as a private organization, we aim to complement areas where the government, universities, and research institutes have limitations.”
