Zelensky: "We Are in Kyiv"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] The United States has been preparing evacuation plans for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, but Zelensky reportedly rejected these plans, according to the Washington Post (WP) on the 25th (local time).
According to the report, the U.S. warned President Zelensky that Russia has prioritized him as a primary target for elimination. The U.S. is concerned that if Russia captures Zelensky, they could isolate him from the outside world or force him to concede.
It is also reported that multiple plans were discussed, including ensuring that he could stay in the safest possible location to guarantee the continuity of the Ukrainian government. Adam Schiff, Chairman of the U.S. House Intelligence Committee, said, "We are deeply concerned about the threats to President Zelensky’s life and well-being," adding, "We are prepared to assist him in any way possible." White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki also stated, "We are in contact with President Zelensky and are working to provide him with various forms of support."
However, President Zelensky expressed his intention to remain in the capital, Kyiv. On the same day, he posted a video on Facebook with key administrative ministers, stating, "We are in Kyiv. We are defending Ukraine." In the video, President Zelensky said, "We are all here. Our military is here. The citizens and society are here," adding, "We will all protect our independence and nation here. Glory to Ukraine!"
