[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] Samsung Heavy Industries announced on the 24th that it has secured an order for four liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers from a shipping company in the African region, totaling 998.5 billion KRW. The vessels are scheduled to be delivered by September 2025.

The newly ordered ships will be equipped with Samsung Heavy Industries' independently developed eco-friendly and smart ship technologies such as 'Saver Air' and 'S-Bessel' to efficiently respond to strengthened environmental regulations.

Samsung Heavy Industries' representative eco-friendly technology, Saver Air, is an energy-saving device (ESD) that injects air beneath the hull to reduce frictional resistance and improve fuel efficiency, while S-Bessel is a smart ship solution that automatically establishes optimal operating conditions and routes.

A Samsung Heavy Industries official stated, "With the global increase in LNG cargo volume and the strengthening of environmental regulations by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the trend of increasing LNG carrier orders is expected to continue this year as well," adding, "We will do our best to achieve this year's order target through solid orders based on eco-friendly technologies."

Samsung Heavy Industries' order target for this year is 8.8 billion USD, and including this order, it has achieved 9% of the target so far.
