Rinos Acquires Camping Gear Company Mesa... Expecting Synergy Creation

[Asia Economy Reporter Hyungsoo Park] Linos announced on the 23rd that it will acquire Mesa, a camping equipment company.


Mesa is a camping leisure goods company that owns its own brands such as ‘Vinson Massif,’ ‘Urban Camper,’ ‘Firest,’ and ‘Joseon Ddaelgam.’ Established in 2014, it has grown in the camping and leisure goods sector. Last year, it achieved sales of 11.3 billion KRW. It sells camping sleeping bags, tarps, roof bags, and camping firewood. It has secured distribution channels for camping goods through home shopping, online, and offline, and is present in over 280 stores nationwide.


The domestic camping market size has grown from 1.5 trillion KRW in 2016 to 5 trillion KRW last year. Recently, minimal camping and car camping have become popular. It has steadily grown influenced by the consumption characteristics of the MZ generation and the impact of COVID-19.


A Linos official explained, "We focused on the camping industry, which has great growth potential, as a new growth engine," and added, "By acquiring Mesa, we expect to expand market share in camping goods and create synergy between the two companies."


Linos operates IT businesses based on disaster safety communication networks and fashion businesses centered on Kipling and Eastpak. The acquisition of Mesa is expected to create synergy effects with the existing fashion business.
