[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Hyowon] Optical communication network specialist Woorinet announced on the 21st that a module based on the ‘T-Crypto’ technology has been installed in SK Broadband’s proprietary quantum cryptography communication transmission equipment.
The first commercial quantum cryptography communication product in Korea is being introduced through SK Broadband. Domestic companies and institutions using dedicated lines will be able to more easily build quantum cryptography communication networks and strengthen internal data security. SK Broadband provides institutions and companies that have adopted its dedicated lines with quantum cryptography communication transmission equipment, key distributors, optical cores, repeaters, and other related facilities. The transmission equipment provided is equipped with a module that Woorinet and SK Telecom developed based on ‘T-Crypto’ technology, which was the first in Korea to receive the National Intelligence Service’s Cryptographic Module Validation Program (KCMVP) certification.
Woorinet and SK Telecom recently obtained the KCMVP certification for the first time in Korea with the ‘T-Crypto’-based transmission encryption module jointly developed by the two companies. The National Intelligence Service’s Cryptographic Module Validation Program is a system that verifies the safety of cryptographic modules used to protect critical information in national and public institution information and communication networks.
‘T-Crypto,’ applied by Woorinet for the first time with National Intelligence Service certification, is based on the purely domestic cryptographic technology LEA and can securely encrypt or decrypt data communication on optical lines transmitting information at speeds up to 100Gbps. Security is further enhanced through data encryption that integrates mathematical algorithm-based mutual authentication and cryptographic key exchange technology with SK Telecom’s Quantum Key Distribution (QKD).
Woorinet is actively strengthening its business capabilities by collaborating with major telecommunications companies. It also supplied communication equipment (M-POTN) supporting KT’s next-generation integrated nationwide transmission network construction. In particular, the company saw an increase in overall related business sales last year, including quantum cryptography transmission equipment and Internet of Things (IoT) modules.
Choi Jongshin, CEO of Woorinet, said, “With our module installed in SK Broadband’s transmission equipment, we expect the company’s growth to accelerate alongside the launch of commercial quantum cryptography communication products and the expansion of the related market,” adding, “We will also expand new businesses related to the metaverse through our subsidiary ‘J-Storm.’”
Meanwhile, Woorinet plans to actively secure new growth engines through its subsidiaries. ‘J-Storm’ will aggressively target the metaverse market by developing new content and business models using blockchain technology. The company aims to establish an ecosystem where participants, including those in the cultural industry, can generate revenue by securing the K-Culture Digital Contents Platform to promote Korean culture to the global market.
