[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] CJ CheilJedang is accelerating the establishment of a 'Hetbahn Container Recycling Platform.'
On the 20th, CJ CheilJedang announced that it signed a tripartite business agreement for recycling Hetbahn containers with three social cooperative regional self-sufficiency centers (Incheon Bupyeong Southern Regional Self-Sufficiency Center, Gyeongbuk Pohang Sharing Regional Self-Sufficiency Center, Gyeonggi Siheung Small Place Regional Self-Sufficiency Center) and the plastic reprocessing company LK DNC.
Through this agreement, the three regional self-sufficiency centers will be responsible for sorting and washing the collected Hetbahn containers, while LK DNC will handle reprocessing them into plastic raw materials. CJ CheilJedang explained that the agreement is meaningful as it establishes a recycling platform linked to an eco-friendly Creating Shared Value (CSV) project. It is a structure that creates jobs for vulnerable groups led by the regional self-sufficiency centers and generates profits by supplying the washed containers as raw materials.
Since last month, CJ CheilJedang has been conducting the 'Our Containers for the Earth' campaign through its online store CJ The Market, collecting Hetbahn containers used by consumers. The process involves purchasing a planned set containing Hetbahn and a collection box, then filling and returning the box with more than 20 used Hetbahn containers, which are collected via courier service. From the consumer's perspective, they can simply scan the QR code on the collection box to apply and leave it at their doorstep for container return, and they will also receive 1,000 CJ ONE points.
The collected Hetbahn containers will be reborn as trays for holiday gift sets. Once a sufficient amount is secured, CJ Logistics will collaborate to expand applications to eco-friendly logistics pallets and other uses to enhance recycling value.
A CJ CheilJedang official stated, "We will make continuous efforts to ensure that the Hetbahn container collection campaign does not remain a one-time event but settles as a resource circulation platform for the environment."
