[Asia Economy Reporter Na Ye-eun] The Democratic Party of Korea demanded that Yoon Seok-yeol, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party, clarify allegations of collusion with Shincheonji, arguing, "Can the 'L-shaped' finger and 'V-sign' of Lee Man-hee, the leader of Shincheonji and its symbol, and Yoon's 'L-shaped' finger and 'V-sign' really be a coincidence?"
On the 17th, 54 Democratic Party lawmakers including Kim Jin-pyo, Noh Woong-rae, Kim Sang-hee, Woo Won-shik, Ko Min-jung, Kim Yong-min, Kim Byung-gi, and Park Hong-geun held a press conference at the National Assembly Communication Hall, stating, "We cannot help but express serious concern over the suspicion that Shincheonji is politicizing itself through collusion with candidate Yoon and the People Power Party."
They said, "During the recent People Power Party presidential primary, a former Shincheonji official testified that Shincheonji systematically orchestrated mass membership enrollment to elect candidate Yoon, which was reported by the media," and pointed out, "Even Hong Joon-pyo, who had a close race with Yoon, acknowledged the rumor of Shincheonji's support for Yoon."
Regarding Yoon's refusal to allow a search and seizure of Shincheonji, they said, "This only amplifies the rumors of Shincheonji's support," and questioned, "Are you saying that the Ministry of Health and Welfare's opinion takes precedence over the legal authority of the Minister of Justice's command to the Prosecutor General regarding specific cases?"
Furthermore, they stated, "Can the 'L-shaped' finger and 'V-sign' of Lee Man-hee, the leader of Shincheonji and its symbol, and candidate Yoon's 'L-shaped' finger and 'V-sign' really be a coincidence?" and added, "The emerging collusion between candidate Yoon Seok-yeol and Shincheonji is causing the public to doubt their eyes and ears."

In response, the People Power Party expressed disbelief. Im Seung-ho, deputy spokesperson for the People Power Party, posted a photo of candidate Lee Jae-myung making an L-shaped hand gesture on Facebook. He sarcastically referred to Ko Min-jung, who was included in the statement, saying, "Today's remarks from Ko Min-jung, who is working hard for our party."
Additionally, Park Min-young, a youth aide for the People Power Party, posted photos of U.S. Presidents Joe Biden, Donald Trump, and Barack Obama making L-shaped hand gestures, commenting, "At this point, could Shincheonji be the Illuminati?"
