Operable for 4 Years...Midterm Review Every 2 Years
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] Seven universities have been selected to operate the 'General University Online Degree Program,' which runs the entire degree program online.
On the 17th, the Ministry of Education announced that during the review process for the General University Online Degree Program system, applications were received from 12 universities and 22 majors, and among them, seven degree programs (master's) were selected.
The online degree program is a system where general universities operate the curriculum 100% online and award degrees upon fulfilling graduation requirements. Bachelor's programs can be jointly operated by domestic and foreign universities, while master's programs can participate in three types: solely by domestic universities, jointly by domestic universities, or jointly by domestic and foreign universities, with approval from the Ministry of Education.
The universities and degree programs approved this time are ▲Gyeongin National University of Education Graduate School of Education, majoring in Computer Education (Master's) ▲Korea University Graduate School of Public Administration, majoring in Development Policy (Master's) ▲Kookmin University Graduate School of Software Convergence, majoring in Artificial Intelligence Operations (Master's) ▲Mokwon University High-Tech Department, majoring in Webtoon Design Drawing and Animation Virtual Reality (VR) Character Design (Master's) ▲Soonchunhyang University Graduate School of Creative Life, Department of Medical Management Services (Master's) ▲Yeungnam University Graduate School of Environmental Health, Department of Smart Healthcare (Master's).
The approval review committee, composed of experts from various fields such as education, humanities and social sciences, engineering, and arts and physical education, conducted evaluations based on the operation plans submitted by each university through written and face-to-face (video conference due to COVID-19) reviews.
The selected degree programs will be allowed to operate online for four years. The selected universities will utilize internal remote class management committees and remote education support centers to support and manage continuous improvement of the online degree programs.
The Ministry of Education will verify whether the online degree programs are operated as intended through biennial interim evaluations and will also support the expansion of exchanges and cooperation among the selected universities.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Yoo Eun-hye stated, "The Ministry of Education will continuously work with universities to ensure that well-designed curricula, excellent faculty, and high-quality digital infrastructure enable online classes to realize possibilities beyond face-to-face classes."
