[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Over 120 cultural and artistic figures from the Gwangju and Jeonnam regions have expressed their support for Lee Jae-myung, the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party of Korea.
The New Wave Culture and Arts Committee recently held a meeting to declare support for candidate Lee and to propose policy suggestions, as well as to establish the committee and hold a meeting with its executives.
The committee was formed to promote the sustainable development of cultural content and improve the lives of cultural and artistic professionals in South Korea, which has risen to the ranks of advanced countries as a cultural powerhouse.
To research and develop thorough and flawless policies, professional cultural artists, amateur artists, and culture- and arts-related companies who love culture and art in the Gwangju-Jeonnam area joined forces.
Co-chairman Lim Soyup conveyed the voices of cultural artists who fear that if the conservative government manages the country again, the cultural blacklist will be revived.
He said, “I am confident that only candidate Lee Jae-myung has the philosophy and capability to create a country where freedom of creation without blacklists is guaranteed, where creators can realize their ideas as cultural content without worrying about their livelihood, and where all Korean citizens can enjoy and participate in culture and arts to improve their quality of life.”
During the meeting, policy proposals in the field of culture and arts were also presented to candidate Lee Jae-myung.
The policy proposal was presented by Professor Kim Dohyung, co-chairman and adjunct professor of the Graduate School of Culture at Chosun University, based on the policy proposal document by Advisor Lee Seungkwon (Director of the International Culture Research Institute and Chair Professor of the Graduate School of Culture at Chosun University).
Five cultural and artistic policy tasks were proposed: culture and arts, cultural tourism, culture and sports, cultural cities, and cultural exchange.
Co-chairman Kim Dohyung stated, “We have worked hard to propose realistic and widely agreeable proper policies so that citizens’ basic cultural rights are guaranteed and artists can move toward a fair society without restrictions on creation.”
Meanwhile, the meeting was attended by Song Gapseok, Member of the National Assembly (Chairman of the Democratic Party Gwangju City Committee), Shin Sujeong, City Council Member (Chair of the Environment and Welfare Committee of Gwangju Metropolitan Council), Co-chairman Lim Soyup (President of Gwangju Bitsori Culture and Arts Association, Vice President of the Korea Ocarina Music Association), Co-chairman Kim Dohyung (Adjunct Professor of the Graduate School of Culture at Chosun University, Co-representative of the Hope Forum), and over 20 cultural and artistic figures.
