1000 North Korean Defectors Declare Support for Lee Jae-myung: "A Competent Peace President with Will and Execution Power"

[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] One thousand members from 12 North Korean defector organizations, including the Ibook 9 Provinces Settlers Committee, declared their support for Lee Jae-myung, the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party of Korea.

On the afternoon of the 10th, they stated at the briefing room on the 2nd floor of the Democratic Party Central Office in Yeouido, Seoul, that Lee is "a capable peace president who possesses a strong will and bold execution power to bring peace to this land despite any adverse conditions."

They emphasized, "To ease tensions on the Korean Peninsula, the election of candidate Lee, who combines a strong will and capability for peace, is urgently needed."

On the other hand, regarding candidate Yoon, they pointed out, "He talks about a preemptive strike against North Korea, where our families live," and warned, "A preemptive strike means mutual destruction."

Regarding Yoon’s proposal for additional deployment of THAAD, they said, "It only causes unnecessary conflicts without any effectiveness," and questioned, "How can we elect someone as president who, when there is a fire, intends to pour oil on it?"

They added, "Unlike candidate Yoon, candidate Lee does not divide the people by nationality, region of origin, gender, or age, and he is a candidate who has experienced eating rice soaked in tears amid poverty," expressing hope that "he will warmly care for North Korean settlers who are struggling to settle in the South."

At the event, Song Young-gil, the party leader who gave the welcoming speech, said, "I thank the North Korean settlers who made the difficult decision to declare their support for candidate Lee," and stressed, "To ease tensions on the Korean Peninsula, the election of candidate Lee, who combines a strong will and capability for peace, is urgently needed."

The Ibook 9 Provinces Settlers Committee is an organization of North Korean settlers established to support the successful settlement of Ibook 9 Provinces residents who migrated to South Korea. The support declaration was attended by 12 defector organizations, including Chairman Lim Young-seon.
