[Asia Economy Reporter No Woo-rae] ○…World No. 1 Stacy Lewis (USA) will serve as the captain of the Solheim Cup, a women's golf competition between the United States and Europe.
The Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) announced on the 10th (Korean time) that "Lewis has been appointed as the captain of the 2023 Solheim Cup U.S. team." The Solheim Cup is a biennial event where the U.S. and Europe each form a 12-member women's golf team to compete. The 2023 event will be held at Finca Cortesin in Spain in September. Lewis said, "It is a great honor to be chosen as captain," adding, "I want to create great memories with the team, just like when I played as a competitor."
Lewis is a veteran with a total of 13 LPGA Tour wins, including two major championships. She held the No. 1 ranking for a total of 26 weeks starting in 2011 and was named LPGA Tour Player of the Year in 2012 and 2014. She has participated in the Solheim Cup four times as a player, winning in 2015 and 2017. Last year, she served as the official vice-captain, assisting captain Pat Hurst. This year, she has finished in the top 10 twice out of three LPGA Tour events, ranking 4th in the Solheim Cup points standings.
