[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] The Korea Journalists Association announced on the 7th that it will hold a joint debate featuring four presidential candidates on the 11th. This debate will be jointly hosted by a total of six broadcasters, including four comprehensive programming channels?MBN, JTBC, Channel A, and TV Chosun?and two news-specialized channels?Yonhap News TV and YTN.
The debate will include Lee Jae-myung, the candidate from the Democratic Party of Korea; Yoon Seok-youl, the candidate from the People Power Party; Sim Sang-jung, the candidate from the Justice Party; and Ahn Cheol-soo, the candidate from the People Party. The debate will take place from 8 PM to 10 PM on the 11th. The moderator will be confirmed as a figure recommended through consultations between the Korea Journalists Association and the six broadcasters, and agreed upon by the four parties.
During the debate, the candidates will express their views on various topics including politics, economy, and society, and conduct mutual verification through free discussion. The Journalists Association also plans to verify their perspectives on the media by gathering opinions from its member companies.
The Journalists Association apologized for insufficient consultation with broadcasters during the selection process of the hosting broadcasters. Kim Dong-hoon, president of the Korea Journalists Association, stated, "The Korea Journalists Association will do its best to create a platform for verifying presidential candidates through prompt practical consultations with the four ruling and opposition parties, as well as representatives from comprehensive programming and news channels."
