[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Hyun-ji] Yoon Seok-yeol, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party, reiterated on the 7th that he would not rule out unification with Ahn Cheol-soo, the presidential candidate of the People’s Party, but refrained from making specific remarks.

After a special lecture for presidential candidates at the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry on the same day, Yoon responded to a question asking, “Do you see unification with candidate Ahn as an essential condition for regime change?” by saying, “I have nothing more to say except that I do not rule it out.”

Regarding Kwon Young-se, the head of the People Power Party’s election campaign headquarters, mentioning that the possibility of unification is open, Yoon said, “I have not spoken with Head Kwon and have no separate comments to make.” When asked, “To what extent should we understand the possibility of unification?” he also refrained from elaborating, saying, “I already said I would not comment on unification. I have nothing more to say.”

About the meeting between former People Power Party general election campaign chairman Kim Jong-in and Lee Jae-myung, the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party, the previous day, Yoon said, “Would I have a separate stance on their meeting?” Regarding the Democratic Party’s allegations that Yoon has a close relationship with Kim Man-bae, the major shareholder of Hwacheon Daeyu, Yoon dismissed them as “absurd,” adding, “I have never eaten a meal or had a cup of tea with that person (Kim Man-bae) for over ten years.”
