[Asia Economy Reporter Song Seung-yoon] Shinsegae International's lifestyle brand JAJU announced on the 7th that it plans to replace more than 70% of its clothing with sustainable products by 2025, using eco-friendly fabrics, recycled materials, and leftover fabrics.
Starting this month, JAJU has secured the exclusive license for "Cotton made in Africa (CmiA)" for the first time in Asia and will launch a total of about 30 related products including T-shirts and pajamas. CmiA is an international standard that provides various support to African farmers for sustainable cotton production.
CmiA cotton does not use harmful pesticides or insecticides according to strict international regulations such as those of the WHO. In addition to environmental protection, it fulfills social responsibilities through gender equality, prohibition of child labor exploitation, and support for agricultural technology and education. JAJU plans to continuously introduce CmiA-certified cotton to offer high-quality eco-friendly products to customers and take the lead in supporting African cotton production, environmental protection, and improving the living conditions of local farmers.
This month, JAJU will introduce about 30 products including T-shirts, pants, and pajamas, and this spring, it will launch a total of about 100 CmiA-labeled products.
A JAJU representative said, "As the trend of value consumption, where consumers express their beliefs and preferences through consumption, grows, more customers are purchasing products that practice eco-friendliness, environmental protection, and ethical production," adding, "We will continue to develop products that satisfy sustainability as well as quality, design, and price."
