[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Sumi] The promotional material for the 'National Dividend Account' proposed by Heo Kyung-young, the presidential candidate of the National Revolutionary Party, is becoming a hot topic among netizens.
On the 5th, Heo's campaign team revealed the National Dividend Account promotional material through their official blog, stating, "Candidate Heo is creating a new type of policy leaflet and distributing it nationwide."
The National Dividend Account summarizes Heo's major pledges on a single bankbook statement, assuming he wins the presidential election on March 9. This account includes pledges such as the COVID-19 emergency livelihood support fund and the national dividend that Heo has proposed so far.
The front of the account states, "It is not that the country has no money, but that there are too many thieves." Inside the account, there is also an explanation: "All citizens are shareholders of the Republic of Korea and are guaranteed a monthly national dividend, and this deposit cannot be seized under any circumstances."
Looking at the account details, on May 9, the day before the inauguration of the 20th president, 100 million KRW was deposited from the Bank of Korea as an emergency livelihood support fund. On the 15th of every month, 1.5 million KRW was deposited as a national dividend.
Additionally, a birthday congratulatory fund of 100,000 KRW from the president and a dating support fund of 200,000 KRW from the district office were also deposited. Summing these amounts, the account holder received over 350 million KRW in just five months through these supports.
The back of the account lists Heo's major policies and funding plans. Specifically, it claims that by making members of the National Assembly honorary unpaid positions, abolishing party subsidies, and eliminating local elections, 70% of the national budget can be saved, securing a total budget exceeding 3,800 trillion KRW.
Meanwhile, on the same day, Heo announced via his SNS that he would hold a solo policy debate and livestream it through 100 YouTubers. He added, "More than 100 YouTubers will broadcast simultaneously in real time. Currently, over 120 have been secured."
This is an alternative measure since Heo cannot participate in the four-candidate presidential TV debate due to the 'below 5% support rate' rule.
Earlier, after his injunction request to ban the four-candidate presidential TV debate excluding himself was dismissed, Heo filed another injunction request at the Seoul Western District Court on the 3rd, asking to prohibit the presidential candidate debate broadcast.
