Kim, "National leaders must be able to earn the trust of the people"
Lee avoids answering 'Daejang-dong' questions related to leader's responsibility issue
[Asia Economy Reporters Oh Ju-yeon and Lee Hyun-joo] On the 2nd, Kim Dong-yeon, the New Wave presidential candidate, demanded a clear stance from Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party presidential candidate, saying, "For a national leader to gain the trust of the people, he should have a clear position on that issue (Daejang-dong) and do something that can earn the people's trust." However, Lee avoided answering, saying there were too many questions to respond to all.
During the policy debate between the two candidates hosted by CBS that afternoon, Kim said, "I have worked with several presidents," and added, "The mistakes made by presidents who did not achieve high performance are, first, obsession with election pledges, and second, issues of a leader's trust."
He brought up Lee's responsibility regarding the 'Daejang-dong suspicion,' saying, "When I was Deputy Prime Minister and was questioned in the National Assembly, when I asked who was responsible, a first-level official stood up. At that time, I said, 'Although I delegated authority, it is my responsibility.'"
Kim said, "In the case of Daejang-dong, it is ultimately (Lee's) responsibility," and added, "I hope he takes a clear stance on that issue and does something that can earn the people's trust."
In response, Lee appeared embarrassed and said, "There are so many things you mentioned that it is difficult to answer all." Regarding the first issue Kim raised, 'obsession with pledges,' Lee only said, "It is clear that politicians should not stubbornly insist on their own views or implement policies just to realize their beliefs," and added, "I will also carefully consider basic income by fully respecting the will of the people."
Meanwhile, when Kim asked how much Lee plans to spend on this presidential election's campaign costs, Lee replied, "I have not yet made detailed plans, but since this is an all-out war, I will spend as much as legally allowed and as much as helps the campaign within the possible range."
